Unpublished typescript (137 p.) biography of Robert Louis Stevenson. The typescript pairs pairs illustrations (b&w and color reproductions of photographs) from signficant places in Stevenson's life with texts of his work and correspondence that relate to them. Illustrations include homes, a portrait painting of Stevenson, places he frequented on his travels around the world, including the United States, and the original map he used in his book, Treasure Island.

Robert Lewis (later changed to "Louis") Balfour Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 13, 1850. He attended the University of Edinburgh intending to become a civil engineer like his father, but ill health curtailed his studies and prompted him to travel to warmer climates. This inspired Stevenson to write stories, novels and essays about his travels. While in France he met American artist Fanny Osbourne. Knight was a San Francisco commercial photographer whose work documents the Bay Area scene, important local personalities, and numerous business activities. After he retired he was free to pursue his plan of following in Robert Louis Stevenson's footsteps around the world, study him, and photograph the places he lived in or wrote about.
